"You've got to take your lives into your own hands."
What is the narrator trying to say?
He is trying to say that men should not depend on the gods. Man should start planting his own food. There would be no diffrence if man or the gods planted the food. Food will always be food. The gods always plant what you need, but if you plant more than you need. When the gods decide to take out the food and decide you to go hungry. You will not be hungry anymore for the food you'd saved and the gods will stop having power over you. You will start having your life in your own hands.

I wonder if it is always good to take your life into your own hands or if you should insteadbe part of the "God[s]" plan instead.
interesting... it seems that there are contradictory messages in the book, no?
