Underdogs-Mariano Azuela

The book is about a rebel named Demetrio Macias. He and all the people that have been oppressed by the government begin to revolt. Demetrio starts gathering many friends and people that are against the government to make an army to fight with the federals.

The Mexican revolution began because of a dictatorship. Porfirio Diaz had more than 30 years in the power. Francisco Villa one of the most important revolutionist began fighting against him and the government and the revolution began. The rebels won and Huerta was put on power where he settled a law "sufragio electivo no reelecion" that means that no president can be reelected.

What did Porfirio Diaz do, that the poeople wanted to revolt against him?

Very good question, you can write a lot with that.

Ricardo, This is a great question. Something to consider; how is Diaz portrayed in the text? Does this change from beginning to end? This might help you make a connection to the text and the history.
